Republicans Hand Senate Democrats Victory

By Brad Taylor

Taylor Posted on: May 24, 2005

A last-minute Senate deal to avoid the forcing of the Constitutional option on judicial nominees has dismayed many conservatives. The Democrats are crowing over their victory as they promise to continue their unconstitutional blockade of judicial nominations. They continue to press their attack, using slash-and-burn tactics on anybody that stands in their way.

"The rules that blocked conservative nominees remain in effect, and nothing of significance has changed... The unconstitutional filibuster survives in the arsenal of Senate liberals." Those behind the filibusters have tried every trick in the book to paint the constitutional option as a Republican "power grab," but Dobson says it's all smoke and mirrors -- just the latest example of the kind of name-calling that liberals have resorted to because they have no rational arguments to offer.

Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar called Dobson the 'antichrist of the world' for pointing out how the Senator broke his campaign promise by supporting the Democrats' filibusters. On the Senate floor last week Sen. Patrick Leahy accused Dobson of 'contemptible' actions and of practicing 'religious McCarthyism' for pointing out the anti-religious bias evident in the public statements and actions of some Democratic senators.

Under the deal, only three of President Bush's blockaded nominees will receive the Senate vote they deserve: Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid was pleased with the deal. 'This is really good news for every American,' Reid triumphantly told reporters. He then promised to continue to block the nominations of William Myers and Henry Saad.

Gary Bauer, president of American Values, said, "You have to hand it to the liberals. They spent a few weeks after the election going through the ritual soul-searching, but then they did what they do best - attacked and attacked some more." He also stated, "the desire of millions of Americans to restore balance to our federal courts has been thwarted behind closed doors by 14 senators."

This is truly a sad day for America.
