An Open Letter to Hollywood

Dear Hollywood,
Thank you so much for your concern for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Also, thank you so much for your unsolicited opinions regarding President George Bush.
First, I would like to address Sean Penn’s attempts to rescue friends who he would not name. Mr. Penn, what were you thinking when you claimed to be on a rescue mission with a personal entourage? Did you really plan to rescue anyone given the number of people in your boat? I personally find your “rescue mission” repugnant! This was just a thinly disguised attempt for attention and a photo opportunity. While you may think your intentions were good, you weren’t fooling anyone! I will, however, give you credit for one thing--at least you tried to help people before you started criticizing the President.
Next, I would like to address Pierce Brosnan’s comments regarding the President’s response to the tragedy. I am very disappointed in you! You were once my favorite, but alas, no more. How dare you make comments about President Bush while you were in France. I do understand, however, that you obviously have no understanding about the way the government works in America. Having been raised in a country where everyone is dependent on the government, I realize that it might be hard for you to grasp the concept of a representative republic. The whole reason my ancestors left England, Ireland, and Scotland, was because they knew that dependence on government was a bad idea. Rage on, Mr. Brosnan. In fact, just move back to the UK and pay income taxes on your money there. We can do without your money given your general ungrateful attitude.
Angelina Jolie, what can I say about you, the UN Goodwill Ambassador? Your statement that the initial funds the U.S. government allocated to aid hurricane victims was not enough, is incredibly baffling. This just shows that you truly are a pretty face without a brain. Why would you think this would be the only money allocated to help those in need? Have you missed the fact that the private sector is donating money as fast as they can? If you are so concerned about these people, why don’t you come to Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama, and get your pretty manicured hands dirty? Why don’t you comfort these people as you do people in third world countries?
Finally, I truly thank those in Hollywood who have gone to the storm ravaged areas and rolled up their sleeves to work, or comfort victims without berating the President. There is enough blame to go around in this tragedy. While many may not think the government’s response was timely enough, there will be time later to find out who is at fault. If you want attention, go help those in need and shut up!
Sincerely, Leisa Taylor-A Disgusted Former Fan!
